Today is January 15th – 3 months since I purchased the Depew Redo. All is all, I’m still smiling. Even with the ups and downs . . . I’m excited to continue with the renovations.
Over the next couple of weeks, I’m committed to:
- finding someone to build the stucco building skirt
- completing the bathroom in the original house – including shower tile, painting, window trim, plumbing fixtures, and baseboards
- hiring an arborist look at my huge pecan trees – and then getting them trimmed
- getting estimates for a new metal roof
- and finally, figuring out what to do with the back house.
Thanks for everyone’s encouragement and support! Especially my parents, Chip and Gail, for their help! I couldn’t do it without them!

Joe began demo on the bathroom.
I helped with the clean-up.
As revealed in a previous post, the bathroom walls are covered in vintage wall paper. I love the pattern – and the border at the top.

A couple weeks ago, a neighbor explained how they applied this type of paper. First, they would hang the horizontal wood boards. Next, they used tiny nails to affix a light fabric (which resembles a loosely woven linen) to the wood. Then, they would throw water on the fabric causing it to tighten and become smoother and more uniform. The last step is to apply the paper. I’m amazed the paper is in such good shape. I’m guessing the drywall has protected it for at least 50 years, or maybe longer.

I love finding artifacts and all things old from the house’s past.
When the medicine cabinet/vanity light was removed, a big hole was uncovered where a recessed medicine cabinet once was. While some may think this is gross, I had to save the pile of razor blades sitting in there.
I’ve been told old medicine cabinets had a slot to put used razor blades – so the discovery makes sense. Visually, they appear clean and unused – and I love their graphic quality. I’m planning to frame them, as everything is beautiful in repetition.
